Given that we live on a peninsula, opportunities for fishing are plentiful in Florida. Whether you want to fish in one of our many lakes and rivers, in the Gulf of Mexico or off the Atlantic coast, you’ve got all kinds of freshwater and saltwater fishing options available to you. So where are some of the best places to fish?

Jet Ski of Miami is your Florida fishing boat dealer, serving Hialeah. As such, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite Florida fishing spots for you to check out on your next angling adventure.

1. The Florida Keys

Our majestic Florida Keys are one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations and they’re also an excellent place to go fishing. You can fish close to shore or head out onto the open water to find bigger catches. Some of the fish you’ll find off the coast of the Keys include tuna, snappers, flounder, whiting, redfish and trout.

2. Steinhatchee, FL

This coastal city is renowned as “The Gateway to Florida’s Nature Coast” and it’s not hard to see why when you get there! If you don’t want to spend your time in the harbors of a major city, then take a relaxing trip to this charming oasis to get in some sightseeing and fishing on the same day. Fish found off the coast of Steinhatchee include speckled trout, grouper, cobia, Spanish mackerel and redfish.

3. Lake Okeechobee

We would be remiss if we failed to mention Florida’s largest freshwater lake, also known as “Florida’s Inland Sea” due to its breadth. As the eighth largest natural freshwater lake in the United States, Lake Okeechobee covers an impressive 730 square miles, but has an average depth of only nine feet. That means you’ll probably want a flat-bottom fishing boat that you can take on plane easily.

Bass fishing is an extremely popular pastime at this lake, and tournaments are frequent. Other types of fish you can catch in Lake Okeechobee include catfish, bluegill and crappie.

4. Biscayne Bay

Located right here in the Miami metro, Biscayne Bay is our city’s own lagoon on the Atlantic coast. There are certain areas of the Biscayne National Park which are closed to fishing and th public, but these are conveniently marked with buoys in most cases. Consult with the National Park Service if you’re curious about areas to fish. Types of fish available to catch in Biscayne Bay include tarpon, snook, mahi mahi, sailfish, redfish, grouper and blackfin tuna.
