The Sunshine State is basically the perfect place for people who own personal watercraft to live. We’re a peninsula that’s surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Gulf of Mexico to the west, so we have endless coastal options for personal watercraft riding. Not only that, but there are plenty of lakes within the state that are great for riding your PWC. Here are just a few places we recommend you try if you’re looking for a good spot to take your PWC in southern Florida.

1. Lake Weir (near Ocala, FL)

In Marion County, you’ll find the freshwater Lake Weir, which offers you 5,600 acres of pristine water for cruising in your personal watercraft. The lake is near several of Florida’s most popular tourist attractions, but it’s also amid the Ocala National Forest, which features thousands of acres showcasing Floridian wildlife. A public boat launch is available at the Hope Boat Ramp.

2. Biscayne Bay (Miami, FL)

You don’t even have to leave the Miami metro area to find a great place to ride your PWC off the coast. As the home to the Port of Miami, Biscayne Bay is a highly trafficked area by many different types of marine crafts. You can find four different marinas where you can launch your PWC, including Crandon Marina, Matheson Hammock Marina, Black Point Park, and Herbert Hoover Marina.

3. Lake Okeechobee

Also known fondly as Florida’s Inland Sea, the majesty of Lake Okeechobee is perfect for a spin on your personal watercraft. Covering an impressive 730 square miles and extremely shallow for its size, the lake is divided between five southern Florida counties, so you have several options to enter it. The South Bay portion in Palm Beach County is closest to Miami, however.

4. Marco Island (Naples, FL)

This gorgeous Gulf beach is on a barrier island that’s popular with personal watercraft riders, as well as boaters, fishers, paddlers, kayakers, parasailors, and other adventurous mariners. You can take your PWC from Marco Island to Keewaydin Island, which is equally likely to be a peaceful retreat or an incredible party spot.

5. Cocoa Beach (Orlando, FL)

This six-mile sandy beach is an epicenter of Florida tourism. There are over 30 boat ramps up and down the stretch of beach where you can launch your PWC into the Atlantic very easily. Cruise past the historic Cocoa Beach Pier on your way to Port Canaveral, which is full of fun activities.
